Helpful Guide for Client Input ...
The most important part of the design process starts with you. In order to enhance communications between you and your web designer initial input is needed to help develop your site and to present you with an accurate estimate. This is not a daunting task and hopefully the following information will be a tool to help demystify what initial steps need to be taken in order to plan and organize your thoughts prior to meeting or contacting your web designer and providing them with this information.
- Do you need a new domain name or do you currently have one?
- Do you require a web hosting service? A web hosting service is where your site is "parked" on the internet. We currently offer web hosting through Dreamhost.
- Do you have a specific style or look that you want for your site? Provide us with a short list of some urls of websites that appeal to you.
- How many pages will your site require? Some suggested pages would be your main (home) page, contact page, an about you page, image gallery pages, upcoming events or news media page, a links page, FAQ (frequently asked questions) page, testimonial or policy pages
- Content is an important part of your site because this is where you promote yourself. What do you want to say about yourself, your product, your artwork, or your business? Is there a certain message you want to convey to your viewers. If you are promoting your artwork or a product you will probably want to provide us with a description, dimensions, price, and perhaps the medium it is done on. This text information is best provided to us in a Microsoft Word document file.
- If you have your own images that you want to put on your site, provide us with the images, logo, photos, graphics, and content you desire on a CD or DVD along with your text content.
- If you have a business card and/or brochures send them along too. Content can be derived from them to use on your site.
- Make sure you own the copyright to your images and content or have permission from the copyright owner. If you have permission then we will need a copy of their approval.
- How do you want visitors to your site to contact? Information such as phone and cell phone numbers, fax, email or street address can be put into the design.
- Do you want a slideshow or contact form on your site?
- Do you need custom graphics?
- Do you want to show links to other sites, if so, provide us the links and we’ll add them.
- Do you require a site where you will be selling items using a shopping cart?
- Do you have a deadline for your site?
